Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty is one of the most respected figures among all other renowned Indian Classical Vocalist. But he did not stop there at this point for his own fame and name only. He believes man cannot live alone in society, and what man gains through his experiences and journey in life, should share and particularly pass on to his next generation.
Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, therefore, had thought of posterity, and had created a scientific process of ‘musical relay’, to keep the tradition of Indian Music intact.
Some of the well known professionally established disciples are:
Kavita Krishnamurthy
Sharada Krishnamurthy, popularly known as Kavita Krishnamurthy or Kavita Subramaniam, is an Indian
playback and classical singer. She has recorded songs in various Indian languages including Hindi,
Bengali, Kannada, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, Telugu, Odia, Marathi, English, Urdu, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati,
Nepali, Assamese, Konkani, Punjabi and other languages. She is the recipient of four Filmfare Best
Female Playback Singer Awards (winning consecutively during 1995–1997), and the Padmashri which she
received in 2005. She was awarded a Doctorate (Honoris Causa) for her contributions to Indian music
by Bangalore-based Jain University in 2015. In 1999, she married noted violinist L. Subramaniam and
resides in Bengaluru.
Srikanta Acharya
Srikanta Acharya primarily sings contemporary Bengali songs reflecting the ethos of his times as well
steeped in the rich musical heritage of the past. Srikanta received formal training in Rabindra Sangeet
for ten years from Dakshinee. Among his albums of Rabindrasangeet Jibon Chhobi (2004) received the Best
Rabindrasangeet Alpha Music Award in 2004. Significantly Srikantas song in Rituparno Ghoshs film Titli
fetched him the Best Male Playback BFJA award in 2003 and rendition of a Tagore song for Mrinal Sen's
movie Amar Bhuban fetched him the Anandalok Award for the Best Male Playback Singer in 2004. Recently
he played the role of Satyendranath in the movie Kadombori.
Manomay Bhattacharya
Manomay Bhattacharya is the fifth generation of JADUBHATTA having a sweet voice and he is no
flash-in-the-pan. He has had solid training in music at the age of 4 under the vigilant guidance of
father Sri Dhrubadas Bhattacharya, a disciple of Subinoy Roy, and mother Ila Bhattacharya, a disciple
of Ratneswar Mukherjee. Manomay places himself under the tutelage of Benukumar Dobey, Bibhuti Bose and
Jayanta Bose, who trained him a finer nuance of the Classical music.
He learned Tagore songs from father and various items of songs viz. Nazrul Geeti, Rajnikanter Gaan,
Atulprasad, Dewijendra Geeti, Ragpradhan, Bhajan and Modern Bengali songs from illustrious teachers like
Biman Mukhopadhyay, Sukumar Mitra, Dilip Roy, Anal Chattopadhyay, Sanjay Chakraborty, Jatileshwar
Mukhopadhyay and still in close touch with Pandit Ajay Chakraborty with whom varied songs are learned.
Purbayan Chatterjee
Purbayan is considered as one of the finest Sitar players in Indian Classical music and has attained a
very special place for himself among the musicians and music lovers around the world. Purbayan belongs
to the famous Senia Maihar Gharana, the school established by musical genius Baba Allauddin Khan, the
guru of such stars as Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (He also studied with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) on the sarod and
sitar players Pandit Ravi Shankar and Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.
Purbayan is a multifaceted musician. Along with his concerts of North Indian raga music, he also
performs with musicians from the South Indian raga tradition and participates in various fusion projects
with jazz (His music has been appreciated by jazz greats, such as Chick Corea, Bella Fleck, and Pat
Metheney). and world musicians all over the globe. Purbayan is also astounding vocalist and has lent
his soulful voice to many mellifluous compositions.
Purbayan has designed the DWO, which is a Doppelganger of the Indian Sitar. Purbayan’s DWO celebrates
the oneness of two. It creates sound where the acoustic and the digital, where the ancient and the
modern, where the ethnic and the urban, where the esoteric and the virtuosic, all complement each
other and become one.
Snehasish Mozumder
Snehasish Mozumder is among those few established musicians in India who has mastered the art of playing
Mandolin, and has blended it perfectly into the style of Hindustani Indian Classical Music. Coming from
a musically oriented family, he started his initial training at the age of four with Tabla and then
Mandolin under the guidance of his grand father late Sri Bibhuty Ranjan Mozumder and then he took
training under his father Sri Himangshu Mazumder and his uncle late Sri Ranjan Mozumder. Gradually he
switched over to his cousin Sri Tejendra Narayan Majumdar who is a well-known sarode player of the
country. He continued his study under late Acharya Ajoy Sinha Roy who was a beloved disciple of Baba
Allauddin Khan Saheb, the founder of Maihar Gharana and he takes lesson of laykari under the guidance
of Pandit Anil Palit who is a senior most disciple of Pandit Kishan Maharaj, Finally he came under
the tutelage of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. Snehasish, has performed many major festivals in India like
Sankat Mochan Utsav of Varanasi Swami Haridas Sangeet Sanmelan of Mumbai, Indian Habitat Centre of
Delhi, Bhowanipur Sangeeet Sanmelan, GolPark Ramkrishna Mission of Kolkata and Saltlake Music Conference
of Kolkata e.t.c., and also he has toured Europe, U.K., and USA and made a very good name amongst
the music lovers. He is the recipient of Surmani and Jadubhatta Awards.
Anol Chatterjee
Anol Chatterjee is one of the most prominent young Indian Classical Vocalist of India. He is a senior
disciple of Guru Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. He has also learnt from Late Shri Ajit
Chakraborty, Smt. Chandana Chakraborty and Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharya. He is an A grade Artiste of
All India Radio. He is the recipient of Aditya Birla Kala Kiran Puraskar and Guru Jnan Prakash Ghosh
Shrutinandan Puraskar. Anol Is an ex scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy, a national scholar and a
senior faculty member of Shrutinandan. He has also worked with IIT Kharagpur in their scientific
research project on Indian Music. He has performed extensively within India and in abroad like USA,
Canada, United Kingdom, South Africa and Bangladesh.
Deborshee Bhattacharya
A promising and versatile musician of this age, Deborshee was born in a musical family and was introduced
to music at the age of 5 by his mother and first guru, Smt. Reena Bhattacharjee. Trained under the
eminent Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty , his versatility reflects in not only his performance on different genres
of music but in his music compositions as well. He has performed in several prestigious musical concerts
across the globe amongst elite musicians. Deborshee has been blessed by stalwarts of Indian Music such
as, Late Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Vidushi Lata Mangeshkar, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt.
Hariprasad Chaurasia and many more stalwarts. The diversity of his music reflects in his albums where
he has performed in different genres of music like Ghazal, Sufi, Bhajan, Bengali songs etc. Currently
a Musician, ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, Deborshee is an ‘A’ graded artist of All India Radio.
He is a regular performer in television and an empaneled artist of ICCR, Government of India.
Brajeswar Mukherjee
Brajeswar Mukherjee is a notable classical vocalist from India. He was initiated into music by his
parents and later continued to train under the guidance of Asit Roy of Bishnupur gharana. He is
presently a disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Mukherjee has toured in India and abroad. He is
a recipient of Ustaad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Gaanvardhan Award, Dhananjay Bhattacharya Award,
and the Shrutinandan Puaraskar. Mukherjee is presently a teacher at ITC Sangeet Research Academy and
Shrutinandan – a music institution established by Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Budding young talents
There are some budding young talents also getting nurtured by him. Each one of them are higher-grade performing scholars and artists of Shrutinandan concept but they all need blessings of the Almighty, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, and of all people, and are waiting for their turn to come to lime light. Some of them are Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, therefore, had thought of posterity, and had created a scientific process of ‘musical relay’, to keep the tradition of Indian Music intact.

Sayani Palit
Sayani's illustrious musical journey spans over two decades, marked by dedication, excellence and an
unwavering passion for her art. Beginning her musical taleem at the tender age of four, her rigorous
training includes 22 years of revered tutelage under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and later Padma Bhushan
Girija Devi-ji as a scholar at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy. This extensive mentorship has
allowed Sayani to excel in her craft, captivating millions of listeners with her versatile and soulful
singing. A gold medalist at both graduate and postgraduate levels, She has completed her Ph.D. in
Thumri from University of Calcutta.
Kaustuv Kanti Ganguli
Dr. Kaustuv Kanti Ganguli is a professional vocalist, scientist, and musicologist trained in Hindustani
music tradition. Hailing from the Patiala gharana, he is proficient in Khayal, Thumri-Dadra, Bhajan,
and other allied musical forms. Initiated into music at an age of 4, he has continued his musical
training with vocal maestro Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty as a scholar at ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.
Kaustuv has been performing in various cities of India as well as abroad since the age of 12 in
prestigious concerts such as the Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Arohee, Gharana GenNext, and
Sur Sagar by Pancham Nishad, Suburban Music Circle (Mumbai), Art Music of India Festival (Barcelona,
Spain), Swarmangesh, Serendipity Arts Festival (Goa), and recently a series of online concerts to name
a few.
Saket Sahu
Saket Sahu is the violinist from Raipur. He is a musician Scholar at ITC SRA, Kolkata. Saket Sahu is the
disciple of Pt. Radhakrishna Jha and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Pratik Shrivastava
Pratik Shrivastava is a talented young sarod player, known for crystal clear taans (melodic elaborations)
and superb layakari (rhythmic interplay). He was inducted into the instrument’s rituals by his family,
first learning from his grandfather Pandit Rabi Chakraborty and then his uncle Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty,
both artists of the Maihar gharana.
Pratik began touring the world as a teenager, winning several awards and appearing at the international
children’s festival in Amman, Jordan. Today he receives advanced instruction from vocalist Pandit Ajoy
Chakraborty as well as sarodia Pandit Tejendra Majumdar. He enjoys listening to jazz, flamenco, and
psytrance as well as Indian classical of the North and South.
Ayan Sengupta
A Musician Scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy under Pt. Partha Chatterjee and Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty,
Ayan started learning to play the Sitar at the age of six. Belonging to the Senia-Maihar gharana he has
also learnt from Pt. Manilal Nag and then Pt. Kushal Das. A first class first in M.A in Instrumental
Music from Rabindra Bharati University after obtaining a 1st class B.A (Hons) degree in Instrumental
Music from the same university. Ayan has many awards and scholarships to his credit. A National
Scholar under the Government of India’s CCRT scheme, he stood 1st in a competition held at the State
Youth Festival in 2005. Ayan stood1st in the West Bengal Rajya Sangeet Academy competition in 2006.
He also stood 1st in the All India Radio Music Competition in 2007. The Dover Lane Music Competition
also bestowed him with the title of the winner in 2007. He was awarded with ‘A’ Grade by the All India
Radio in 2011. He also received the National Scholarship (Senior) from the government of India the same
year. An empanelled artist of the INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS (ICCR) in 2017.
Abir Hossain
Abir Hossain is a notable sarod artist from India. His father Gulam Emam was his first mentor in music.
He later trained under Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Hossain has performed at
shows in India and abroad. He was awarded with the National Scholarship of the Government of India, the
gold medal at the ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’ examination, and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purskar. He is
presently a teacher and performer at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Paramananda Roy
Paramananda was trained in playing the Flute by his father, Pandit Gopal Roy. He joined the ITC Sangeet
Research Academy as a Scholar in 2016, under Pandit Partha Chatterjee. Paramananda later started
receiving training under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Paramananda is an empaneled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. He has performed at
prestigious platforms such as Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre Nalbari in 2019. He has also performed at
the ITC Sangeet Sammelan Kolkata in 2016, 2017 and 2019. He is a regular performer on All India Radio
and Doordarshan. He also serves as Tutor of Instrumental Music at The Academy of Folk Arts, IIT Kharagpur.
Anubhav Khamaru
Anubhav Khamaru was born and brought up in a musical family at chandandaha south 24 parganas. His grand
mother smt archana khamaru and his father debasis khamaru had musical traning .So anubhab used to
intently listen to songs and showed musical aptitude from his childhood. his father took him to
shrutinandan kolkata in the year 2007 at the age of five only. There he got careful training under the
tutelage of sri Sagnik Bhattachariya,smt Sujata Basu, Sri Anirban Chatterjee and Sri Brojeswar mukjerjee.
Finaly Guru Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty took the charge of teaching Anubhab from 2013. In the year 2017 he
joined I.T.C Sangeet Research Academy as a scholar of the academy under the much coveted guidance of
gurujee Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty Anubhab received the prestigious SHRUTINANDAN ART AND MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP in
the year 2013 and MS SUBHALAXMI AWARD AND FELLOWSHIP in 2019-2021 from Mumbai.
Sangborti Das
Sangborti Das started learning music at the age of three, from her parents and joined Shrutinandan, at
the age of eight, where she learned for 14 years under Shri Bidhan Mitra , Shri Abhijit Mukherjee, Shri
Kaushik Goswami and Shri Anol Chatterjee. In 2017, she joined the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research
Academy as a Junior Scholar, and is currently training as a Senior Scholar under the tutelage of
Padmabhushan Guru Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Junior Guru Sri Brajeswar Mukherjee.
Sangborti has received awards in quite a few competitions including the 1st prize in the Khayal and
Thumri categories at the Murari Smriti All India Music Competition 2016. She is also the recipient of
the prestigious National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in the Hindustani
Vocal Music, 2019.
Aritra Chakraborty
Aritra Chakraborty is an young and upcoming Hindustani classical vocalist who also takes equal interest
in different other genres and instruments. He took his Taalim from Ustad Ghulam Akbar Khan (2000-2001)
and Shrutinandan (2001-2015) under Smt. Sujata Basu, Shri Brajeswar Mukherjee, and Padmabhushan Pt.
Ajoy Chakraborty. He was also engaged with ITC Sangeet Research Academy as a scholar under Shri
Brajeswar Mukherjee and Padmabhushan Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty from 2017-2022, and as an instructor of
Shrutinandan (from 2013 onwards). he conducted several workshops and classes throughout the country
(online/offline). Some of his Awards/ Accolades are : Shrutinandan Talent Award (2013), Scholarship
from Shrutinandan (2013-2015), Scholarship from ITC Sangeet Research Academy (2016). He has performer
in television (Doordarshan, Ruposhi Bangla, Akash 8 etc) and frequently accompanied Guru Pt. Ajoy
Chakraborty in various prestigious concerts all through the country. He has received Sangeet Shree
from Bangiya Sangeet Kala Kendra (2017). He completed his teacher's training from Bansiya Sangeet Kala
Kendra (2018).
